Initiation: Therapy begins with your decision to seek help from a therapist, you might have make a phone call, send an email or text…you’ve already visited this web site!
Discovery: The first few sessions we will be getting to know each other. I will be guiding this in part by asking questions about what is going on in your life, how you understand your challenges and your family history. While we are answering these questions you are figuring out whether you feel comfortable with how we are beginning to work together.
Exploration and Skill Building: This is the longest part of therapy. You have more choices to make about what you want to examine more closely. We both want you to feel better, stronger and more capable of managing future challenges. The time we will spend will depend on how ambitious we are about what you want to accomplish. There are choices and decisions to make, I can point out things that might be worth considering and it is always your choice about whether to take the extra time to go into more depth.
Independence: Eventually, you will begin to feel that you can manage on your own knowing that you have acquired many skills and tools that will help which include (but are not limited to) things like greater self awareness, techniques to communicate more clearly and set boundaries and tools to manage the inevitable stress that is part of life.
